dear devs: thanks for your opinion, but it's not your call which version of the game I prefer. bottom line, please do not give this game your time or this developer your money. Update: From my 1* review, it is still unplayable for me; it is impossible. The effect of the ship cannon is so bad because it affects its surroundings, which makes my troop die easily. It's worse that the ship is in hiding; I can't even prepare for the impact. It is possible to get a refund because this is not what I paid for. I don't even care about tournaments or multiplayer; I just want to play my favourite game at my own pace. I still propose the classic or vanilla version,please.. New update has got me to finally stop playing this game. Devs, change is not always for the best. Was good while lasted.. I don't get why people rate this game so low just because of the update, seriously this game is great strategy game for all. There is no glitches so far, and I have been playing for months now. P.S the knights are best for attacking lots of 10 h.p bad guys.. how to ruin your game, good intention to add complexity in the gameplay, but missing all the essentials of the why people love the game in the first place, simplicity casual gaming. but hey let's talk about complexity, i can do that too, for example the market building is useless, because it should be an early investment to get a lot of stars, but this version, you have to get expensive research and build high level building, by the time you can build market, your cities are already rich .
Overall great game with the turn based gameplay. One thing I wish was in the game is map creator now that would be a very cool update!. I loved the game. But now after the water update game isn't fun anymore just frustrating. Who ever gets in the water first wins. And Bugs are now more broken than ever with garden change. I'm likely going to uninstall. Perfect example of ruining balance with creep.. The new update is like an entirely different game. Can't say it's bad, but I personally don't like it. The ship system is overly complicated IMO, also I strongly dislike how capital cities can now be placed immediately adjacent to one another. What would I like to see is more control on map generation and completely custom maps.. AI is broken after the last patch and sea update makes it even worst. At least let us choose the rules old or new ones.
Re: Path of the Ocean Update. I really enjoyed Polytopia for a long time, but I wish there were an option to play without the new Path of the Ocean update. The game is completely different now. I just want to play regular Polytopia :( I feel like I lost my favourite game. (Also, IMO, the new items are aesthetically displeasing - the starfish and naval units are ugly and incongruous).. The new changes are complex and unfun. Please make a classic mode. If you want to change that much gameplay don't make it an update. Make it a sequel.. I love board games, and this just made me love board games even more. Cool updates, and stragys for every playstyle like defenses, and rushers. Overall this is one of the best mobile games I have ever played.. I really loved this game. This new update has some cool features, but I dont think they were implemented right. Not a big fan of the new ships. The bridges are pretty sweet. The Aquarian tribe I've had to disable because their trident unit is to over powered. Also not a fan of some of the cost change. I have faith that the developers can make tweaks and make this update work. I miss being able to make giants into battle ships..
Path of the ocean update has ruined the game. I've given time, but the update sucks. Would love to go back to the old version. This game was good to relieve stress, now it just seems like another factor. I've actually played for a few years and now it just doesn't hit, like it use to .. Brilliant game. Love the changes in the recent update. Feel like the special tribes are maybe a bit stronger than the rest in multiplayer from my experience, but that's all. Great game, although the naval update messed up the map generation to force naval play. And enemy alliances are risicouless, why have option of multiple opponent if they are always acting as 1?.
I've purchased an in game purchase and i was allowed to play it for a dot or two then it started saying I must pay for it again to use the tride? I've bought the tride and with this issue my review stays at one star.. Game is good, but there were better maps before bridge and ships update, i dont like one big land without any lake between. Please bring back previous world generator, or possibility to generate it in old style.. If you longed for those Heroes of Might & Magic days, Polytopia is the game for you. No, it doesn't have castles and monsters and it feels more like a light-Civ, but it shares one gene with HofM&M - JUST ONE MORE TURN; and then it's 3 in the morning and time flew by! Edit: With the Path of the Ocean update, the game is not so much fun.... With the new update, I've found myself uninterested in playing. The previous version was fun, and was one of the few apps I spent money on. Given the substantive changes to the gameplay, I would strongly prefer a refund. A new player might do fine. It's very frustrating that structural changes were made without giving the option to retain or revert to the older version, especially for those of us who paid I to the old version..
Awesome game. I'd recommend it for all of my friends. My wife already playing with me and I winning Thanks, it's awesome . Update adds a new level of depth and complexity. Whilst the previous format was fun, it pretty much mostly ended up trade hubs surrounded by ports and giant spam. The market place system requires more thought and planning, and navel system is more nuanced. Not sure about the increase in cost of roads, but I'm sure they'll be more tweaks and balancing in future.. Such an amazing game. A lot of rooms to improve the game. As a fan of this game I suggest adding more units and improving some visual for more attractions on other. Overall, keep it up!. Bring back classic mode! Update, nope, still sicks. The original game was simple balance and offered incredible replay value. The new game is pointlessly more complex. Less is more. Un-installed!.
Good game. In the mobile version, the computer is too weak on maximum difficulty. Raise the difficulty level and it will be perfect. Great concept for a game. Necessary troubleshoots: 1- group games shouldn't wait for one person. The initiative should be able to kick or find other solutions 2- player running out of time or resigning shouldn't require OK. Everything is locked. And why a notification is sent!! 3- it needs to be a way to skip Replay. 4-Game is slow because of showing stars or points gained. Seconds matter in the game. 5- server connection is a problem. 6- The game crashes in your turn if you're in reolay. Overall its a great app, but 1 tribe triggers me the most that tribe you cant win againts in the exception of the player playing is just new to the game,that tribe is kicko who destroys you in maps with water terrains,at the start of the game you would just start off smooth then afther just a few turns you realize all of your coastal cities were getting destroyed by scouts,like this lets kicko dont let you fight back by pushing you deeper inland,please fix the scouts they are so op with kicko. Uses to love this game until the latest update. They game has changed much that its almost nothing like the last version. I wish I could get the money I spent back as this is not what I paid for..
Hey can you guys fix the update so it works? It won't let me place anything from the latest update even though it shows it in the tech tree. The option doesn't even show up when I select a tile. Great game but needs multiplayer or more content. Ran out of things to do in the game after a week. I just feel like it hard to much thing going on and I don't know how to play I want to find other rts games this one not it bad . Who cares anymore. The cloaks ruined a great game. All of these updates are just a waste of time because the game itself is dreadful now..
I have a complaint about the "Continents" map type after the update: It's just one huge chunk of land, divided by rivers, with the ocean shoved in the corner. I liked it before where they were ACTUAL continents, divided by the seven seas. Just like how continents are in real life. Bring back the old "Continents" map type and rename this new map type to "Big Ocean" or something.. I have played this game for years and loved it but this new upgrade has made me uninstall it and change my rating from 5 to 1 star. They've over complicated the boating and made custom houses worthless. You can no longer play on the archipelago map. It seems they are trying to make things more complicated and in effect making it no fun. I hope they find a way to bring back the old version. If they wanted to make it better they should have made the computer smarter.. I've played this game for years. The latest update has completely ruined it. In an attempt to more closely emulate Civilization mechanics they've made ocean faring and economics incredibly difficult, almost to the point of unplayable on a mobile platform. No u unlocked for me the tribes and i tell u what i have and u give me free or the money back.
No longer enjoyable. I have played this game for years but the latest changes have made it unplayable. Why can't we have the original version as an option?. One of the best games I have ever played in my life. Please continue to update and bring more exciting features. The game is so good no ads, epic music and fun gameplay.. Was my #1 game. Bought all the extras, spent 1000s of hours playing. New update killed it. It's an entirely different game. I feel cheated. They stole the game I loved. I wouldn't have paid money for this version of the game. Worse, devs are being arrogant jerks to everyone who's upset. Why not just make Polytopia 2? Way to punish loyal fans. ETA: your canned response is condescending and misses the point completely. I don't want your 'richer experience,' I want the game I paid money for back.. Loved the new update. Before it, I felt that I 'solved' this game, and I was consistently beating armies of crazy bots without losing a single unit. Hopefully this update will make the game more challenging.
I'm on Chromebook. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this game. I rated it a 5/5 stars on my phone because it's just so amazing. However, using the mouse on my laptop just doesn't feel right. Not a huge issue but a minor quality downside. The main point I decided to get it on my laptop was the bigger wider screen it has. However, it just puts it in portrait mode. If this was changed I would easily change to a 5/5 stars. Still, it is a must download game if you like strategy turn-based games.. This has been my favorite game for years -- a simplified Civilization that you could finish and enjoy in a half hour. The new Path of the Ocean update completely ruins that experience. Increasing the stars needed for roads and forests makes the beginning of the game a much slower slog on land, and the new ocean gameplay is just convoluted and uninteresting. No, I don't need to give it time. I've tried it out and no longer have any interest. Bring back the old version.. Don't waste your money. Multiple times now this dev has made huge game altering changes without any warning. That means one day you find the game you have is no longer the game you bought. All I want is a toggle for the single player game that disables the new features. Instead the dev will reply with arrogant responses about learning the new dynamics. No thanks. What made Polytopia fun was it's simplicity and quick gameplay. Now it's become a bloated time consuming mess. Sad.. I used to play this game daily with my wife. The new update made us hate it. And tip to the responder: if everyone hates the new update, it's not them, it's the update. I don't need a "more enriching experience", I need old polytopia back.

As other users have mentioned this should have been a new tribe and not a wholesale change. It feels like the original game was designed by one person and now it is being designed by a committee.. Absolutely love this game but I switched to iOS a little bit ago and it would be nice to transfer ownership of tribes to that account and not pay for them again.. Edited review: dislike the new updated version of the game, it's become overly complex and now it's less about skill and dependent on which tribe you have selected like if the enemy is a certain tribe and you're a certain tribe you have no chance and vice versa.. Review - Post Oceans Update Needs a classic mode. The new continent formation offers more boring/predictable landmasses in 14-15 player Creative than it ever did before. Props for trying something new, many may like it, but If I wanted to play Hexonia, I would. The changes to naval/sea play remove the incentive/ability to have complex orders of battle, in place we get units better suited to supporting ground atks on cities. I really like this game scenes 2018 I started To play This game I like this game because You really need use your mind To Win. The ocean update ultimately made the ocean less fun to play lol. Cloak units suck. AI are more OP and agressive. Everything adds up to a less fun and more frustrating gameplay. I keep uninstalled and then reinstalled because I loved this game so much. Not touching it for now.. Okay, so I've given time and I can confirm that this update is terrible. It's a different game now. Playing solo the maps are all water based and force you to be trapped or spend your stars on ports to then start the ocean mess. Unplayable. Now you are forced into where to spend your stars and it's luck of the draw if you get more than two villages in your first little chunk of land. What a shame.. Played this game for years. Didn't like the last two updates, so I will be taking a break from it. It is getting more complex than what I am looking for..
Update took away two tribes that I already bought and won't give them back to me, one star until I get them back. Polaris and cymanti, and the skin for vengir is trying to make me buy it again! Fix this i want my stuff back, I ended up buying the tribes again as nothing I did would give them back, not even the RESTORE PURCHASES button. New update (Path of the Ocean) is horrible. It is the update that nobody asked for and nobody wanted. It is not just an update, it is an entirely different game. Tribes, units and costs are not balanced; technical development has been stretched out and terrain development is far too complicated [markets]; and games now take far more than 30 rounds. Tried to be Civilization and killed the fun. @Midjiwan: let users go back to older version. The new version is not what people bought into and loved. Used to like the tinkering, but definitely not loving the current iteration yet. I really miss the old game play with whales and two types of ships.. Polytopia is an ad-free freemium game on mobile. Simply put, a thought-provoking strategy gane with the right amount of depth for mobile play. Able to pause and stop any time, With half-decent bots and multiplayer to boot. Really good, especially for most of the game being free. I'd be more eager to buy tribes if they came in a package rather than buying them individually, as they collectively still cost quite a lot. Update from 5 to 1 star. Sorry, your latest update has made this game frustrating to play. I used to be able to get across the map pretty consistently by turns 15 to 20, with a great economy. Now I often toil away in one corner until turn 10, by which time bots are pumping out giants and tons of units. I'm not buying your "just give it a chance response." So don't bother. Like others have said, make this polytopia 2, and put the old Polytopia back up for those who just want a simple time killer.. I've been playing this game since the beginning and it was one of the best mobile games out there. No pay to win or cash grab here! I bought all the tribes to support these awesome developers. HOWEVER, this "path of the ocean" update changes the game so drastically that it's completely lost it's simplistic charm. I appreciate the dedication to improvement, but this is a big miss in my book. It's just not as fun. Devs forgot the golden rule: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.. Until earlier this month, Polytopia was a brilliant, fun strategy title that took an existing 4X formula and made it streamlined and fast-paced. The new Path of the Ocean update dramatically changed that gameplay, and the result is a slow and unbalanced mess. It feels like a closed beta for Polytopia 2. I just want Polytopia 1 back. The new update completely ruined it. I started playing around 2018 until recently, it used to be a short and simple well-polished game that I could play every night to pass time. Cloak update wasnt great but still tolerable. Now with the naval update the gameplay became even more unnecessarily messy and clunky. I wish we could have the pre-naval update version back, the version where so many people have spent years playing and loving.. Pretty neat strategy game, lots of tribes with different unique, and lots of ways to play. This is a mobile game that I can give a check mark of approval. 10/10. Very fun but sort of difficult the only thing i would change about this game is the constant uprisings when you take to long to take over a country overall a good game. Realy fun based strategy game. However, The updates(game changing updates like Naval Rework aka Path of the ocean)take too long to enter/come to the game.. And I think there should be more tribes added like more special tribes or more regular tribes. And the basic thing I would love to see getting added in the game is that " Playing Online with people around the world" should be completely free and everyone should be able to play the online multiplayer for free..even with the 4 starting tribes.
I thought the updates r new skins and tribes, now after the unit went to the port it becomes a raft rather than a boat, who uses raft on port? Why there has to be star, when you already could farm in so many ways? REPLACED WHALE MAGIC TO FARMING & what's the sense of buying special tribes if it's almost the same as the other, the only difference i see now is the super unit and the design. PLEASE BRING BACK THE WHALE! I don't like to use ships, i miss the whale. ri is about magic! NOT SHIPS!. great game and i think the kickoo tribe's mountains could be a volcano and aquatism should give you the ability to plant aqua farms. Best RTS ever. It's so worth the $2 per tribe. You only need to buy one just to play multi-player. It's such a fun game.. I've been playing this game for years, and I've bought all of the available tribes. This new update changes the game dramatically, it's effectively a new game, and I don't understand why it was forced on us. Make a new version, or have this as an optional mode. Who the hell did you talk to that made you think people would be happy about this?. The enemy constantly spams your cities with spies while constantly creating their best troops. They can't do both but they do. I had given it three stars before and then I changed it to 1 because there us no 0.. So good so good so simple so easy so hard it's amazing if you like civilization but hate that it takes 6 real life years to finish it this is your game.
If you haven't installed the update yet. FULL STOP!! The update took an absolute classic game for short play throughs and turned it into an over-complicated train wreck. There is no option for uninstalling the update. There is also no option for playing a "classic" version. I assume this was done to cater to people who play multiplayer version. I only ever played solo, and HATE the changes. There is however a third option. UNINSTALLED. This guarantees I never spend money with them. The end.. Hate the latest update, ruined gameplay for me. Leave the old versions alone and invent Polytopia2 or something, instead of irritating long time players. Seriously, 4 different ship types!?!? Plus changes to damage, like when my swordsman is in a fortified city and gets killed in 2 hits, WTH?. Midjiwan lost it's mojo. The simplicity of the game was what made it fun to play (ref: Nintendo). That's gone now. The cloaks were the first step in the wrong direction. The latest update has too many gameplay flaws to mention. If you insist, just release it as a new version and give us back our Polytopia Classic.. Since you used this update to stealth nerf the swordsman to remove the "fortify" ability and ruined their offensive AND defensive capabilities, REDUCE THEIR PRICE or INCREASE THEIR BASE HEALTH VALUE by 10 since you've COMPLETELY CHANGED THEIR CLASS'S FUNCTION. I don't even use swordsmen anymore now that they're merely unbalanced, weak, lesser giants. I'll bite, though.. If i uniformly apply this stupid "balancing" logic, the warrior (their direct predecessor) should lose fortify as well, right?!.
I used to love this game so much. But every new update makes it worse. The devs keep taking away old features, and strategies. Removing customs houses was the last straw for me. I tried to install an older version, just to go back to when this game was fun, but apparently those aren't supported, even in single player. If it isn't broke, devs, don't fix it. I miss how this game used to be. Polytopia used to be one of my favorites; but I'm sad to say I can no longer recommend it.. As others have said, update has ruined it. Was my go to time killer on journeys for - must be - years by now. Oh well, had a good run i guess, less of this means I'll get more important things done!. Its a great game. However, since I've updated the game, my tribes have been reset. I've lost about 12 dollars in tribes. I can't find any disadvantages about this game! Multiplayer, check; single player, check; enough free stuff (not everything needs to be paid), check; etc. Thanks a lot for the hard work!.
Game is ruined after last update. Was big fan, not anymore. Game play is dis-balanced, units are non logical. Sad, that was excellent previously. This naval focus is poor designed.. Honestly, this is the best mobile game I've played. It's a nice time killer for yourself and/or friends that's still offers a challenge. This game got me into turn based strategy.. This game used to be my favorite mobile game. It was simplistic yet challenging. Now, after the Path of the Oceans update, it's practically an entirely new game. It's no longer any fun at all. The developers aren't listening to the player base and they force you to update the app, ruining the experience for many users. Even worse, they respond to complaints in an unprofessional way, telling their users how they should feel. This used to be a five star game, but now giving it one star is generous. The games great, but the multiplayer mode is very limited. the game hasn't got matchmaking, instead requiring users to add friends in order to player PVP. Overall, once you've beaten the different tribes it's a bit repetitive as well. Different modes or even a story mode would have been enticing.
The latest update is a considerable improvement from the diplomacy initial release. The changes with the market and water units have made playing the game interesting again.. Remove cloaks, it's a pain in the ahh when every tribe spams cloaks against you, especially when you make the map bigger. I'm a fan of the update but you could change cloaks so you can't make riots and instead use them to get Intel, or you could just make it an option to flat out turn of cloaks. Would be nice to have co-op mode and more options on multiplayer timer? In-app guide on tribes and units would be a plus too. Overall i do enjoy the game, maybe quests to obtain more tribes instead of direct form of cash would be great too. :) Edit: the new update ruined the game. No point in paying for special tribes. Seeking refund and moving on.. This game is the best But I hope to see more stuff in the future like able to have more ai and free tribes.
This last update sucks frankly. Changes battle dynamics, unit movement, game strategy, all in a very radical way. Perhaps if you had implemented some of these changes over time rather than completely redoing the game. However, as it is the game which I've enjoyed for years is unplayable, and I will be uninstalling it.. I used to love this turn based game, it reminds me Civilization, but after the last update with the new ships the game has become too easy. In Domination mode now I can win all the times against bots. With just 2-3 cities left I could even win against a bot with 11 cities. In the old version that would have been impossible.. New review: Don't tell everyone to get used to the Path of the ocean. Old-time players like us changing our reviews from 5 stars to 1 star should be enough of an obvious sign. Make this Ocean version a different game mode or get rid of it. If not you'll find yourself plummeting down the ratings chart. Old review: Best mix of strategy in a short game time. Absolutely love it, the first time I've ever considered paid for every possible upgradefor a phone game.. Update that all my friends wanted : Add Indonesian language, since all my friends hate English because of their "nationalism" , ughhhh my country had brainwashed them so much..
UPDATE: Cloak problem has been resolved. OLD: This used to be my go-to game. Now I hate it. The introduction of "cloaks" has ruined it for me. It's an awful feature. Everything going great? Wham, here's eight new enemy swordsmen surrounding your cities. Every city. On the same turn. Repeatedly. I'm sure the algorithm is playing fairly, but come on - every city every turn!? Even "happy" cities?. If u pick crazy difficulty and pick lots of enemies. You actually fighting one ai that controls many tribe. They dont become more intelligent in gaming but use advantage over controlling lots of tribe to make it difficult for you. Boring. And its still the same.. It's a great game. The developers responded to an issue with ny game and fixed it relatively quickly. I really respect the team and community behind this game, and I'm happy to give them a 5 star review! Fantastic Game.. Great strategy game. My rating keeps dropping as with every update it's getting worse .. lucky I have it on an old phone without the update so I can still play the old one!.
Love this game. Been playing it on and off to pass the time for years. Very well thought out game, it's chess meets strategy game with the feel of an rts. The new naval update is cool and I like the other modifications made. However, I'm quite unhappy with the "improved AI". The AI actually seems considerably worse to me. I always thought the AI was. Little too easy, even on the crazy setting. After the naval update it seems much worse. The computer opponents just do some really dumb stuff now.. This latest update is so bad, I'm uninstalling. Why not create a new game instead of throwing all the rules out? Completely disappointed. I want my money back from all the tribe purchases I made. Total BS. I can't wait for the idiot developers to post a canned rebuttal to this review..
